Policies and Procedures

Policy and Procedure Induction
Introduction
At Clare House Nursery, our policies and procedures form the foundation of our daily practice. They ensure that we provide a safe, consistent and high-quality environment for children, families, staff and visitors while meeting our legal and statutory responsibilities.
Policies and procedures provide clear guidance for decision-making, support safe and effective working practices, promote consistency across the nursery and ensure compliance with current legislation, the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and other relevant guidance.
As part of our commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining high standards of care, all staff are expected to have a thorough understanding of the nursery’s policies and procedures and apply them consistently within their daily practice.
Ongoing Policy Review
To ensure policies remain embedded in practice, Clare House Nursery reviews policies and procedures regularly during monthly room meetings, team meetings and staff supervision sessions.
These discussions provide opportunities for staff to:
- Refresh their knowledge of nursery policies and procedures.
- Reflect on current practice and identify areas for improvement.
- Discuss updates to legislation or statutory guidance.
- Share best practice and learning.
- Raise questions or seek clarification.
- Ensure everyone understands their professional responsibilities and Code of Conduct.
- Promote consistency across all rooms within the nursery.
Regular policy reviews help ensure that our procedures remain current, effective and consistently implemented by all members of the team.
Staff Responsibilities
All staff; students and volunteers are responsible for:
- Reading and understanding all nursery policies and procedures relevant to their role.
- Following policies and procedures at all times.
- Seeking clarification from the Nursery Manager or Room Supervisor if they are unsure about any aspect of a policy.
- Attending policy review sessions and mandatory training.
- Keeping up to date with any amendments or newly introduced policies.
- Reporting any concerns, incidents or practice that does not meet the nursery’s policies or expected standards.
- Working in accordance with the nursery’s Code of Conduct and safeguarding responsibilities.
Policy Induction
During induction, every new member of staff, student and volunteer will:
- Receive access to the nursery’s policies and procedures.
- Be introduced to key policies required before working directly with children, including safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour management, confidentiality, online safety and emergency procedures.
- Have opportunities to discuss policies with their manager or mentor.
- Be supported to understand how policies are implemented in practice.
- Confirm that they have read, understood and agree to follow the nursery’s policies and procedures.
Policy understanding will be reviewed throughout induction, probation, supervision and annual appraisal to ensure staff remain confident in applying the nursery’s procedures and delivering high-quality care.
